Audience Feedback

These are some of the pieces of feedback that I received from people when I showed  them my music video. A lot of it is positive, however there are a few bits of constructive criticism that I could use to improve if I ever did remake my music video.

Rough Cut

  • This is our rough cut, as you can see there are a few issues that need addressing such as the editing needs neatening up and some of the lip syncing needs to be matched to the music properly
  • Another issue that I need to address in my final edit is the colours. Towards the end, there is a scene that should be black and white but is shown in full colour and this needs to be changed before I can submit my full completed music video.
  • One of the more effective parts of my music video would be the 'LEMONADE' digital screen which hints to the audience of whats happening within the video. It also brings a sense of reality to the video as it links it back to the fact that the video is based on someone being a character on a virtual reality program.
  • Another effective part of my video would probably be the train and London Eye edit and the way that I manipulated the footage so that it would suit the genre a lot more. With the London Eye, I sped it up so that it looked like the wheel was turning faster then stopped, then continued, which was quite an effective edit. Similarly with the tube station, the train was travelling at high speed so I slowed the footage down up until the last second of that clip where I sped it back up again.

I think with these few edits and adaptions, it will make quite a good final product.

Group Messages

These are some of the messages that were exchanged during the production. From these screenshots you can see that we had to talk a lot through the production and planning to meet up and to sort out sending bits of footage.

Reshoots

We had a fair few re-shoots to do in the end. Some of them were due to corrupt footage and others due to footage going wrong.
One piece of footage we had to re-shoot was the lip syncing as this wasn't in time with the song and at the end, the actor doing it ended up laughing. So we wrote this footage off as unusable and had to try getting the exact footage that I needed with the synchronised lip singing to the music.

Fails and Bloopers

We had to refilm these parts of the video countless times due to embarrassment on the Monkey Bar scene on the underground which we thought was quite funny and we could have as a blooper.

And then again we had a bit of footage that was filmed to early and we didn't get the right outcome so this was written off and discarded as failed footage.

Lemonade Screen

This is the screen which I created as the homepage for the website that was used to go into the Virtual world in my music video. I used these colours since they are very bright and vibrant, which means they will stand out. The logo on the page will also be a key marketing point through use of it for means such as merchandising and advertisement.

Textual Analaysis of Music Video of the same Genre

Song: Banana Brain by Die Antwoord
  •  After watching this, the title of the song seems to be suggesting that your brain goes to mush (like a banana) when you're on alcohol and drugs.

Song Analysis:
  • This song starts off with a girl wearing a pure white dress which could be an indication to her innocence at the start, she also has a blonde box fringe which adds to her naivety as it is a hairstyle usually supported by little girls, therefore making her appear to be young.
  • A guy then drives by in a graffiti covered car, loud music playing from the speakers and driving frantically. This matches the song and also matches the fast paced beat of the music and the unpredictability of the rhythm. He also pulls a gun out whilst driving and starts shooting out of the window which matches the risky driving and that his character is a dangerous one.
  • When the guy (Ninja) gets out of the car, it is shown that he has prosthetic legs below his knees. This is unexpected and the type of prosthetics he has is unusual, linking to rave culture which wear alternative clothing and sport alternative looks.
  • When they both arrive at the house party, they are surrounded by people smoking cannabis and taking tabs, dressed in alternative styles. This reflects electronic music as people usually take drugs when they go to rave or electronic music shows and gigs.
  • The main girl (Yolandi) gets led inside by another girl who seems to be interested in her style. She places a tab of what is suggested to be acid on her tongue and then proceeds to kiss Yolandi. This suggests a loss of innocence in Yolandi as she is both kissing another girl and also getting mixed up with acid at the same time.
  • The loss of innocence is further emphasised when Ninja drags her to another room where the lights turn off and UV lights and paints illuminate the room. This could be a connotation to the way that she is taking off her innocent cover to reveal that she is actually a lot darker underneath. This is also suggested when she is stripped of her dress to reveal that she is wearing a skimpy costume underneath which is another outfit usually worn to festivals. On the other hand it could suggest that she is being stripped of her innocence by Ninja.
  • She runs to the bathroom where there is graffiti and a mirror, which she looks into; seeing a reflection of herself in which she is shown as a dirty old man with missing teeth. This is probably a link to her having a bad trip due to the acid from earlier. It also suggests that she sees herself in a negative way and she wants to change her image, emphasised when she goes to hack at her hair, cutting it all back.
  • To finish off the song, she dresses back into the white dress and also uses a hat to cover her hair before she goes back home. This suggests that she must put on her innocent image to get by in her life.

London Mood Board

This mood board was designed based around London which is one of the main areas in which I shall be doing my filming. I mainly included well known places and land marks in this story board as I'm hoping to film in areas like that. I've also included the underground system as that is the mode of transport I'm planning to use most often through my filming.
